can not use seat after 6 years despite expiration date?

I posted a britax frontier for sale on Craigs List. The label says expires 2018. A woman emailed me to say Massachusetts law states you are legally responsible for an injury to a child if seat is older than 6 years regardless of expiration date and that I should throw it away. I have NEVER heard this "law" and google could not find it either. Has anyone heard this?

Sounds to me like someone is making something up. I've never heard of a law like that. Perhaps some MA board members can weigh in.

It's not even a recommendation. It's just outdated info. There are a variety of seats out there now which don't expire at 6 years.

The seat is fine to use until it expires. She needs new info.

Yup, that page is just giving a general recommendation, based on many seats that *used to* have a 6 year expiration.
I think if I lived in that state, I'd write to them and ask that they modify the language to say something about not using an expired seat, since so many seats now go 7/8/10, even 12 years now before expiring.
