Evenflo Sure RIde

I'm thinking of picking the Sure Ride up for DD as a spare. She'd like to use it in her VW Routan, driver's side captain's chair. Does anyone know if it would fit/install well there rf by any chance?

Griffin rides in a Clone in the 3rd row, but when the other kids are with their dad she'd like to have a seat she can use and not have to do the hatch load.:) I figure it's cheap enough and will last a long time as a spare for them.

I can't speak to the compatibility with the Routan but I will say we just got a SureRide for travel and I love it FF for my big boy. RF the recline is too much for DD to be happy. FWIW, she rides (RF of course) in a Clone in Grandma's car and is happy there so the recline but be different or something. :shrug-shoulders:

Just put one in a Grand Caravan yesterday, RF, can't recall any issues. IIRC that's essentially the same as the Routan? If I'm making that up, just ignore me :p

They still have a very steep slope (at least, the ones I worked in...) Just the trimmings were different, not the shape.

If you're doing RF, I would brush up on your noodleless install. I do a LOT of SureRides, and my method is always to run the belt through, prop the lip up on the seatback where I want it, then pop the corner of the cover off (it's elastic, easy,) and push down where baby's bum will go as we pull straight up on the shoulder belt to tighten. The pushing down digs the lip into the seatback and the angle holds. Also... LATCH is easier than seatbelt with this seat.

There's a lot of fuss on FB from people who find it difficult, can't get a good angle, etc - but that's not my experience at all. On the other hand, I have done 150? 200? of them in the last year RF so perhaps it's just a matter of practice. But I teach parents and they're able to replicate, so I'm guessing I've just got the technique worked out.

Maybe I need to do a video.

I've done far fewer FF, but I do find that it can sometimes feel wobbly at the top or front while still being quite tight at the belt path. Top tether helps, of course, but don't be fooled if the front gets a little shifty on you :)

Sounds like a video could be in order. I'm hoping to use latch. Maybe this is a bad idea. Lol. I'm having a lot of shoulder pain, which isn't funny.

I find the foot makes a rf install (with seatbelt generally) very easy in comparison to most seats, myself.

Let me see how my week shakes out. I have SureRides, iPhone with video capabilities and a test bench. What I do not have is time. Lol

Sorry about the shoulder pain :(

Thanks. I'm back to doing my exercises so hopefully it will help soon!

I saw there were some car seats on sale at Target in my weekly ad online. I'll have to get over there this week and see if the Sure Ride is included.

Sorry to thread jack, but what are the weight/ height limits on the Sureride. My 7.5 year old has been riding in a HBB but we are having behavior problems with him and he is not sitting properly. I need something inexpensive to harness him for a bit to "scare him straight". He is 48" tall and 48 lbs. I have a 2012 Caravan and he rides outboard in the 3rd row, so no tether. Is that ok?

Tell that to Dodge! Why do they make minivans with only one tether in the 3rd row! And seat belts hat don't fit anyone.

Because it would decrease their profit margins to redesign it, especially as long as people keep buying them not realizing the problems. :/

I find the SureRide to be very easy to install RF (and FF), particularly using LATCH. The trouble is just if there isn't enough room for it. If you've got the space to accommodate that single recline line, it's just plunk-click-click-tighten-done.

Hopefully there would be ample room in a captains chair 2nd row. Are there limitations to rear facing the Sure Ride such as height or harness height or other things that are only apparent with use?

Griffin measured 37.5 inches at his check up. They laid him down to measure him. I had measured him a week or so ago at about 35.25 standing against the wall which also might not be particularly accurate.

40" standing height limit, 3rd slot limit for RFing if you're in Canada, 4th slot for US, huge jump from 3rd to 4th slot, my 38" 2.5 yr old is still on 3rd slot and it's well below his shoulders, but he isn't tall enough for the 4th.

Oh, and it specifies to use a rolled towel for recline RFing and I imagine the feet of the recline foot would poke holes in a pool noodle.
