Booster Advice

I need help picking out highback boosters for my oldest son.

I need one booster to go in my mom's SUV for occassional use (so needs to be easy to use, very obvious as far as how the seatbelt path goes).

And another booster to go in Dh's car and also possibly be used for travel in our primary vehicle (minivan).

I am looking for something fairly narrow at the bottom since Dh's car is a Honda Civic and I'm hoping we'll be able to fit 3 across (currently we never put all 3 kids in that car, but this is proving to be a pain when we need to take the minivan in for oil changes, etc). The other seats in that car would be a Graco Nautilus (harness mode) and a RF Graco MyRide. But I would be open to getting another seat if needed for the RF seat.

We may occassionally need to do 3 across in the back of our Toyota Sienna when my niece travels with us and in that case it would be booster, FF Diono Radian and booster (my niece's booster...no idea how wide hers is). So again, narrow is good, but also comfort for a longer car trip.

Oh and my son is almost 6 years old, if it makes a difference, he is tall and skinny.

The seats I've been looking at are the Graco Turbobooster and Evenflo Big Kid Amp. Both have good reviews and are narrow seats, but I haven't seen either of them in person and I have no idea how to choose!

Thanks for any advice!

Bumping this up so you get some responses!

First, welcome!

The Turbo is a favorite, but it isn't very tall, so the back will be outgrown fairly quickly. It's not too wide, though, and does fit skinny kids well. I think it and and Amp is about the same as far as height goes. The Turbo may be a little taller.

If you can get a good belt fit, you might think about a backless, like the Harmony Youth Booster, for the less-used cars. It's narrow and usually gives a really nice lap belt fit. I like younger kids in high-backs, but technically, a backless is just as safe.

I'm in the booster hunt as well right now, and feel like I'm striking out, so I may be no help. I really love my son's Recaro Performance Booster, but the thing is a beast. I have to help him scoot it over just a little pretty often so he can buckle, and I drive an Expedition. The Britax Parkway SG or SGL is also a favorite here, although I've never used one.

If you can measure his torso height, that'll help with recommendations, since some tall kids have average torsos and long legs, where others carry their height more in their torso. It matters for how long a high back booster will fit, since the shoulder belt guide has to be at or above the shoulder.

Have him sit against a wall and measure from the floor to the top of his shoulder.

I will see if I can measure him tomorrow. :)

I wound up ordering the Turbobooster. If it doesn't work in our car, I will let my mom use it. But it looks like it might be a little more comfortable, so i went with that one.
