Some one side that this seat was good for 8 years a Fisher Price Safe Embrace. I was wondering if it has built in lock offs on the top and bottom of the belt install it has a metal clip and on it it says if using a shoulder belt slide it into one locking clip? just the shoulder belt not the lap belt? I am possible needed to use a locking clip on a friends car and I do not have an extra one ( I need it for my car) I dont have the book for it, it was given to me by my anunt trustworthie ran a daycare so I trust her. I was just wondering if it had locking clips thats what it sounds like to me?

Yes, those metal slide clip things are locking clips and you just put the shoulderbelt through it (when FF) on the door side to replace the need for a locking clip. If it's not holding tight, though (sometimes they get bent), then you should use a locking clip (you can buy them at babies r us).

I had planned on getting another clip when I was at Toysrus but they are redoing the store and had all the baby stuff closed off car seats clothes babie toys etc. I was mad but hopefully I can get this one to work.

Oh how annoying!

Anyway, most of them (FP lockoffs) do work great... most people with a preference prefer that lockoff to the Britax one, even :)

I badly damaged the seatbelt with my FPSE lock offs, so I would be gentle putting the belt in and out, and just not uninstall/reinstall more than you have to. I did over and over (being a car seat freak), and the seatbelt became badly frayed and had to be replaced. The belt material seemed less rugged than in some cars, but I still think the metal lock offs are harsher on the belt than Britax. I only use the FP in rentals when we travel now, and I'm very careful when I slide the belt in.

I prefer the Fisher Price lockoff. I have never had any damage to any seatbelts. We have used 3 of the seats in up to 7 different cars for daycare and foster care, so they are installed and re-installed all the time.

I have never had mine not work. It is a neat setup. Very easy to install.

It may have something to do with the belts in our car, or me yanking on the belt to tighten when it was already in the lock off – I shouldn’t have done that. I was very aggressive about installing it and a newbie at installing seats at the time. I’m glad it hasn’t happened to you. I do love the seat, and I have not seen it damage the rentals we’ve used (mostly American cars). When install it now I get the belt really tight and then slip it carefully into the lock off.
