Question Ready for a booster seat?

My son is 4 years old and about 105 cm tall. Is he ready to be switched from his forward facing car seat to a high back booster? The seat belt on the forward facing seat is getting very hard to fasten, but the seat was quite expensive and I feel that it is one of the safer models out there(Britax Boulevard 65). Should I switch him or hold off a bit longer? Safety is my main concern. Also, is there a high back booster seat that is recommended as being especially safe?

Thanks for your assistance!

Hi there.

At four most kids cannot sit properly 100% of the time.

Your next step is a combination seat. Harness to booster.

I'm going to move this to the Canadian forum for you so you get Canadian specific recommendations, but can you let us know your budget?

Are his shoulders below the highest harness height of your Boulevard 65?

Here's a great article for the future, on when kids are ready to move to a booster: http://csftl.org/harness-or-booster-when-to-make-the-switch/

Some info that will help people give you good combination seat recommendations: how tall and heavy is your child? Are there any other passengers in the back seat? And if you have a chance, getting a torso measurement would be helpful: have him sit against a wall and measure from floor to top of shoulder.

My son is a bit bigger than yours, and just about to outgrow his Boulevard too. I've decided to get another Frontier for him, and he'll be harnessed in it for some time to come. (He is neither heavy nor tall enough to use it as a booster, and I'm not in a rush.)

My older son - who is 97th percentile for height - switched to booster mode in his Frontier when he was about 6.5-7 years.
