Hi everyone!
My son is 13, 60inches and weighs about 115 lbs. He is still too short to ride in a seat belt alone. Does anyone know about a booster seat for someone his size, the law is 57inches and he is 60 but still too short! Please suggest a booster seat for him! I am in urgent need of one. Sorry that there are no pics I want to keep his identity a secret.
NB: I live in south Africa and there are limited booster models
Thanks!!!

At this height a high back booster would be counterproductive and less safe than a low back booster. This is true from around 6-8 years depending on size of the child.

This has to do with positioning of the child. Todays unfortunate trend towards larger seats and huge head supports is causing older kids to sit higher up and in a more forward position which affects safety negatively. Parents do of course believe that a hug head support must mean better safety which is incorrect.

Side impact protection is equally horrible in any forward facing seat regardless if it's a harnessed seat, high back booster or a low back booster. Except common sense we also see this clearly in peer reviewed research by Arbogast.

Your best choice a this point in a low back booster which will lift your child up higher from the vehicle seat and place the hip part of the three point belt below the pelvis. This is is important since children have small and round iliac hip bones which makes submarining likely in an accident. A good and comfortable low back booster should not cost more than 25 Euros. It's helpful if the LBB has a strap for keeping the seat belt in good position across the chest.

60" tall and 115lbs. is beyond the limit for most high back boosters. I agree a backless model should suffice if one is available with high enough limits. In fact, he should be very close to fitting in a typical shoulder belt in many vehicles. So, you may not even need a shoulder belt guide strap depending on his torso height and your vehicle's seatbelt configuration. What models of backless boosters are available to you there and what are their weight and height limits? If none have high enough limits, at this age, weight and height, perhaps a comfort seat cushion would be enough to boost them for more comfortable shoulder belt fit if that is the issue of rubbing on his neck, provided the lap belt fit is good enough.

Please provide a photo of your child's fit in the vehicle for more assistance. You are welcome to blur or disguise their face, of course.
