Evenflo Symphony DLX vs Triumph LX

I am going to be getting my son into a convertible car seat this week since he is only 1.5cm from outgrowing his infant bucket seat. I am really torn between two seats. We are really tight on money right now so I am tempted to purchase the Evenflo Triumph LX which is on sale at Toys R Us right now but I really wanted to buy the Symphony DLX because it looks like it is easier to install. Currently, we have two bases for our Graco infant bucket seat. One for each of our vehicles, but when we get a convertible seat we will only be able to afford one seat for now. So I want something that will be able to be switched between cars when needed. I'm also concerned about size because I drive a Toyota Yaris sedan which is a small vehicle. Our other vehicle is a Ford F-150, so I'm not too concerned about finding something to fit into that one. Any tips or recommendations that would help me make the final decision?

What years are your vehicles?

What is the age, weight, and height of your son? How long do you hope to rear-face for?

When you all travel together, which vehicle do you take?

The Yaris is a 2007 and the F-150 is a 2009. Our son is 7 months old, weighs 19.5 lbs and is 72 cm long. We will probably just rear face for the first year then switch. When we are all together we are generally in the F-150 but I go out alone with my son in my Yaris more often than we do all together in the Ford.

I would, as would anyone on this board, encourage you to rear face for much longer than a year -- closer to age 4 actually. The safety benefits are tremendous as rear facing is the best way to protect the head, neck, and spine. We advocate for as long as possible really, and buying a seat now that will enable you to do it easily.

I'd encourage you to look at the Evenflo Titan 65/SureRide, or the Graco MyRide. Both are often found on sale for $100-150 somewhere. The Triumph won't last as long rear-facing as either of those, and the Titan 65/SureRide (same seat, different names) will last far longer both rear- and forward-facing. If you don't need to leave room for a front seat passenger in your Yaris that gives you much more flexibility with space. The Symphony is pricey for how long it lasts.

Try some out if you can and see what you think.
