What kind of a seatbelt is this? Would it even be possible to install a seat with it?

It's on a shuttle bus.

Good grief! It would help if I attached it!

I'm not sure what it's called, but the names which come to mind are "terrifying", and possibly "not installed right?"

Is that the retractor next to the buckle, like on a super long stalk somehow? Might not be as scary looking on a big grownup?

Yeah, it's weird.

Assuming that's anchored properly to the vehicle and crashworthy (which would probably take some looking into) i'm guessing you might need a bsc. Which would have to be used ” backward” maybe?

Qarin: that describes it completely!

Jools: yes the retractor is right next to the buckle. It was very strange. The buckle stalk was crazy long. It still looked scary on adults.

KQ: Ick! A BSC would suck.

Thankfully we are done with that tour company. Our ride back to the airport is on a Sprinter van.

DD is 10, so I would have protested more if she were younger. DH & MIL planned this trip.

The company was fantastic in all other regards.

My former brother in law had a very old VW Bug with that kind of seatbelt in the backseat. The retractor was an automatic locking. We were able to install an infant seat baseless just fine since the retractor ended up on the top of the seat and didn't hit the belt path anywhere. He got rid of that car when his daughter was about 6 months old, so we never had to install a convertible, I I doubt it would have worked very well to have that gigantic retractor behind or under a child in a convertible.
