Convertible for a newborn

My first son was 20" but only 5lbs 12oz when discharged from the hospital. I need a sure fit for small babies.

Then I have to decide what to do with my almost 3 year old who is currently 22lbs and 33". He will be 3 1/2 when baby comes and I assume he will still be extra small (he wears 12-18m shirts and has a 12" torso) -- I'm not sure on his seated height but he still has at least 3" of shell in his Marathon.

My other car is also very small (it's a Buick Verano/Chevrolet Cruze body). Ideally I will buy two seats and install them next to each other (both new seats since I am moving his Marathon to our extended cab truck to keep him rear facing). I'm not really feeling ready to move him forward facing at his size.

So I need:
low harness slots
seat that fits small spaces at newborn recline
and narrow

I'm leaning towards the Cosco Scenera NEXT for both kids. Possibly a Combi Coccoro for the baby and something like a Graco Contender for my 3 year old. Do newborns fit the Contender, too?

Will the sureride fit? The Cosco Scenera BARELY fits in my car so I'm worried about a sureride at newborn recline.

Why not the Scenera NEXT?

A Sureride might be tough front to back. A contender tough as would be as well. I am not sure how it would fit a newborn. What about an Evenflo Tribute?

The front seats should be upright and not reclined as that would give you more room.

Is there a review on the tribute? Looks like the bottom harness is high in the pictures online...

I've not considered it, nor am I familiar with it.

We hardly recline our (front) seats but our back seat is really small. Right now my rear facing seat is installed in the center.

The Scenera NEXT actually might be a good option. It fits littles well and takes up less room front to back than the Scenera, in addition to it lasting longer rear facing. I wouldn't count on using it FF though. Maybe a Scenera next for the noob and a Contender for the toddler?

Such good plan! Thanks!

I think my big guy could fit in the Scenera until around 5.5/6years if I was wanting to keep him RFing that long....but then he'd still need a combo seat and not just a hbb.
