Ok pick a car seat for my co-workers infant

Ok, so my co-worker is having a baby in March. She is probably 6 feet tall, dad is 6'8!! This is going to be a long baby! What should she get for an infant seat? She is well versed on extended rear facing, budget seems very open. She registered for a Peg Perego. Weird thing she heard is that the Peg's cover doesn't come off for washing... So they told her to register for a cooling cover that is made by Peg so she can remove it to wash it. Seems kind of crazy to spend $300 on a seat to cover it up with a $70 cover. Any clue what's up with that? Thanks for the help on finding a seat that will fit a long baby. Oh dad was 10.8 at birth too!

Don't assume because parents are tall baby will be long too! DH is 6'9", 24" at birth and I'm 5'9", 22.5" at birth and our girls were 22" (actually shorter because this took into account her cone head) and 20.75".

DD1 fit into the Keyfit30 until about 11 months. Jury is still out on DD2, she's only a week old!

If it were me, I'd go with a keyfit then reevaluate when it's time for a convertible (if she wants an infant seat). By then they should have a pretty good idea the growth track of the baby and can pick accordingly.

Very few infant seats go to 40 pounds, just the Snugride 40, as far as I know. I wouldn't let the baby's expected length influence the choice. Nobody wants to lug a 40 pound baby around in a car seat anyway. Or really even a 30 pound baby.

The On Board 35 could work well. I know it's one of the longer lasting infant seats on the market and it's budget friendly too. I don't spend a ton on an infant seat as I know it will likely be used less than a year before I ditch it for a convertible seat.
