Vent about my dad and car seats

Let me start by saying that my dad has worked for Ford as car salesman for almost 20 years now. Yes Im big on car seats and their use. The ONLY things that I have asked of him were the following things- #1 have a tether put in my 94 escort. The work papers said they did it, but there wasnt one anywhere that I could find. #2 We just got a van. I am now watching my 2 nieces and nephew. So I requested tethers put in my 93 Ford Aerostar. He said they would do three. I wanted the higher weight ones put in that I would buy but he made a HUGE deal about how I should just stick with the ones that they install since they would be free. I said fine. I planned on just replacing them later. #3 to get 3 locking clips which are free. Up until now, the only thing that I had ever asked of him was #1. DD is in a Britax MA. I bought it specifically for the lock offs and the ease of install. Well, I finally got my new lock offs today to flip them so that I can turn DD around. I asked him where to get the star looking screw driver and if he had one. When I said that they were for the lock offs, he went off on me. About how they were having them installed at his work. I said no, its my clips that replace the locking clip. Then he went on to tell me that Im going way overboard on all of this. I couldnt handle it and just hung up. I just dont understand how he can think that "just ok" is fine safety wise for his only granddaughter. Im really upset about this and knew you guys would understand. Karma to you if you made it this far!!!

{{hugs}} Sorry about the fight.

If it helps at all, I think sometimes all the different terms get confusing for people who aren't as obsessed as us, and he may just not have understood the difference between lock-offs and tether anchors and locking clips. He probably isn't trying to brush off your dd's safety. {{hugs}}

I hope you guys can work things through and come to an agreement. He probably didn't understand the difference between what you were asking for and what he was having done for you & got defensive instead of trying to understand. Hopefully the morning will bring with it some peace and everything will work itself out.

Its just the car seat knowledge in general. I am of course excited about it and do talk about it as well as ask vehicle questions of him. I hate that Im treated as only a daughter and not as an interested party as far as features go. He knows what tethers are and what locking clips are. When I told him the other day that I needed the, he said that I didnt need them later that night, that I just needed to drive safely and I should be fine!:eek:This is why Im upset. Its just car seat safety in general. Maybe if I showed him a compilation of crash test videos?

You may want to remind him that while you may be the safest driver in the world, you have absolutely no control over anyone else on the road. DH thought I was getting a bit obsessive over our latest seat purchase, until I asked how he would feel if something happened to DD and we didn't do all that we could to keep her safe. To me, it's no different than putting in outlet covers or teaching them not to run into the street. As parents (and grandparents), our kids count on us to keep them safe, and you're just doing your job. While he might not ever share your level of concern, hopefully he will come to respect your views.
