Question Truck/rear facing carseat

I have a Nissan Frontier, then I had my son so I've been making payments to my brother to buy his jeep. I know there are good things about having a jeep and an infant, but I like having the truck so much better because I can see him. He's right next to me and I like being able to see him and help him if he needed it. In the jeep I can't see him at all, and it takes everything in me to reach him enough to give him his pacifier. Is it safe to keep the truck? It has a passenger side air bag that I always keep turned off. There are 2 seats in the back, but they're thin and fold down from the sides. I read an article a little while ago saying you shouldn't put a rear facing car seat on a seat that folds out the side. So, would it be good and just as safe as the jeep?

Hi, there, and welcome!

You're right that you can't install a child restraint on the side-facing jump seats. As for the front seat of the truck, a rear-facing car seat can be installed there as long as the airbag is manually turned off with a key or a switch. Sensors that turn off the airbag are not reliable, and a rear-facing seat shouldn't be installed in that case. Just to be sure: you have the airbag MANUALLY turned off, right?

All things being equal, a child is typically safer in the back seat since most crashes are likely to involve the front of the car, and being in the back seat puts the chided farther from the point of impact. On the other hand, the size of the vehicle, its crash-test ratings, safety features, etc. should also be taken into consideration. What is the year and make of the Jeep?
