Three minivans perform abysmally in the IIHS small overlap crash test. The Toyota Sienna earns an acceptable rating, bringing the number of minivans with decent protection to two.

Pretty horrible results for some minivans. I am shocked by how bad the bottom performers are. Sad when this test has been out for years now. Hopefully these results will cause the manufacturers to improve the safety of these family transporters.

I also don't think the video that the Honda did better than the Sienna very well.

The leg intrusion in the Nissan and Chrysler vans is scary... And the way the steering wheel moved on the Chrysler and left the dummy head to smack the steering wheel is terrible.

It sounds like Toyota made some changes for this year which is good but I wonder how the 2011+ model would have fared. Many families bought it since the test came out but it wasn't tested.

Ugh!! I have a dodge grand caravan. I hate it for a variety of reasons, but am stuck with it for a few more years until I can get it paid off. This news makes me hate it even more!

This is awful. I wanted a minivan so bad but we couldn't afford a brand new one with the latest safety features and because of that I chose and suv.
Thank you for posting this.

While I give considerable consideration to these crash results, I also have to consider my personal experience in my Chrysler Town & Country. I was hit head-on in my 2005 T&C on a small road by a full size Dodge truck. Both vehicles were totalled and had hit so hard that the wrecker had to tie one to a tree to hold it while he pulled the other in order to separate them. I did have dashboard knee and seatbelt burns but walked away from the accident.

I replaced that van with a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and just purchased a 2012. We have other vehicles, and after years of trying to get me into something other than a minivan, my husband has accepted that T&C is my vehicle of choice! I just can't find anything else as comfortable to drive or as loaded with conveniences for hauling kids.
