Michigan Officer Buys Mom Booster Instead of Giving Her A Ticket

A public safety officer from Emmett Township, Michigan, went beyond the call of duty on Saturday.

Emmett Township Public Safety Officer Ben Hall was on his patrol when he pulled a vehicle over for a traffic violation.
When he made contact with the driver, he noticed a small child in the car who was wearing a seat belt but not in a child’s car seat.

The young mother told Officer Hall that she understood the importance of having the child in a car seat, but could not afford one because of her limited income at the time.

Rather than giving the young mother a traffic ticket, Officer Hall had the mother pull into a Walmart parking lot, where he went inside and purchased a car seat to keep her daughter safe in.

People have left resources in the comments on the articles as well.
Maybe now the officers will be made aware of the free car seat program as well and can help others. :twocents:

It should be illegal for a tow company to keep a car seat away from a parent!

But hmmm, it said the child was standing up and moving around. So it appears the mom wasn't that vigilant about seat belt use. Hope she will do better now that she has been in the spotlight!

I wish that I 1. Had the funds to do this when a parent was receptive and 2. Had a store in the town or even the county that I worked in that sold car seats.

Good job Officer :)

"A ticket doesn't solve the situation. What solves it is the child being in a booster seat, like she should be."

What a fabulous guy!

Really awesome and thoughtful of him. He's absolutely right better a car seat then a ticket and then maybe one day in the near future she would be apart of the statistics. :(
