Question Top tether on Harmony defender in a Hyundai Sonata

We're trying to install the defender in the middle of our 2011 Hyundai sonata. We have a three across and our seats only fit with the defender in the middle. However, while installing the seats, neither my husband and I could get the top tether attached to the anchor point. The tether is just too big for the space, it literally won't go in. We tried for over an hour. I'm aware that FF seats have to be tethered. But we physically can't attach it. Is it a safety issue if we use the tether attached upside down? There's room under the anchor to attach it upside down, but it's blocked by the plastic enclosure when trying to install in right way up.

Hi and welcome!

I have used the top tether anchors in both my mother in law's Sonata and her Elantra. Both are newer. I don't recall them being super difficult, but it has been awhile.

I don't think it would be a safety issue if it was clipped on upside down, but it shouldn't need to be clipped upside down. What I'm worried about, is that you won't be able to get it unclipped when it's upside down. I've seen that before, and it isn't easy.

Is the tether on the Defender the same as on your other car seats? I'm wondering if there's something different about it. Also, do the plastic covers come off of the tether anchor points...I'm thinking my mother in laws had removeable covers?
