Question Seat recommendations for 86 Jetta

We currently have a Rxt in our main car but need a seat for our secondary car. We tried the RXT in it and it just doesn't. The carseat is too big. I thought the Clek Foonf was smaller but by measurements it's not. We are looking for recommendations for a seat that should fit RF. My husband is 5'10" & I'm 5'4". Hoping someone might have an older jetta or VW with a rf seat they can recommend.

Thank you

How old is the child who rides in the RXT? Does he/she have good head control? If so, have you tried installing with the angle adjuster? Radians take up tons of front to back space without the angle adjuster, and surprisingly little with it.

Child is 9.5 months and has great head control. We haven't tried the angle adjuster as we can't locate one. I am calling the local stores that might carry it to see if they have one. We tried it today in the Jetta and wasn't fun driving with it. Not enough space.

I'm looking at the Nexfit or the Recarro Performance Ride for the Jetta. They seem to be much smaller. I'll keep the Rxt in my car then.

Yes I have seen the link. Thought it was great! I will double check diono's website maybe I missed where we can order direct from them. Thank you!

The Recaro Performance Ride isn't particularly compact. The NextFit is quite compact though as are all of the Britax convertibles. The new Britax Clicktight convertibles releasing later this month will be even more compact.

The Safety 1st Guide 65 is also incredibly small front to back for kids over 22lbs. Under 22 lbs it requires a very deep recline that takes up more space but still not terrible.

The car is 28 years old. Have you had the seatbelts inspected? It's generally recommended to inspect at 10 years. I would have the seatbelts checked and possibly replaced before using them to install a carseat (or restrain a person, including the driver).

Thanks I will look at them farther. We do like the new clicktights that are coming out. Waiting patiently.

Never thought of doing that. Can that be done at the dealership or at a car seat inspection?

Dealership. CPSTs have no training to inspect seatbelts -- we might know if something's really wrong, but most of us aren't mechanics.

I drove a 1988 VW Jetta for many years and still had it when my oldest was born. We used a RF Classic Britax Marathon in the center and it worked very well. That seat is no longer available, but that gives you an idea of what size seat would fit.

DH has a '98 Golf which is also tiny. He is 5'10" or so and I have put a Radian behind his seat with the angle adjuster. I think it was braced on his seat, but with an older car like that it should be fine.

Thanks. I just called Diono regarding the adjuster as every place is back ordered. They told me the expect them in this week them out to distributors by next week. So we are going to order one thru Amazon.
