Question Choosing New Car Seats

My daughter is 31mo, about 33lbs, 38" and currently in Graco Headwise 70 with surround. My son is 21weeks, over 21lbs, over 27" and needs to upgrade from his Keyfit30. We drive '01 Rav4 and '10 Tacoma. Preferably, there'd be space for someone to sit in the back, too. There may be a 3rd seat back there in a few years. I'm considering moving daughter to a harness booster (Britax Frontier is top of budget) and passing her seats down to baby brother. Other option is to get him new seats (Graco Milestone so it converts all the way to booster? Headwise again?) and then purchase boosters later. I just don't know how much longer she'll be comfortable in the Headwise. We're hoping to be around $200 max for new seats. Thoughts? Can we get 3 across with any of these options? Thanks for any insight you can offer!

Me again... anyone know if the Graco Milestone is a good seat? Any idea the crotch buckle depth?

Also, if we go for the harness booster option, is the highback or backless booster more comfortable?

I'm working on a review of the Graco 4Ever right now, which is essentially the same as the Milestone. Crotch buckles are at 5" and 7"

I'm not sure I LOVE it as a booster option. The top high back booster position isn't much higher than the top harness slot, but when kids are that tall, a backless is usually a reasonable option anyway.

If your daughter is already forward-facing, I would go ahead and get her a combination (harness-to-booster) seat and pass down her convertibles.

Thanks for all the info! Yes, she is already ff. I'm wondering if purchasing 2 Frontiers (more than we were hoping to spend) would be worth it since she'd likely be moved into booster mode about the time she's 4 in Feb 2016. Would the Headwise work until then for a 90+ percentile girl? If so, I'd just get a pair of Headwises for baby brother.

Thanks for your help. All this car seat research is making my head spin. (And likely my husband's, too, for having to listen to me!)

If she's just tall but not heavy I would recommend the Evenflo SureRide, it has top strap height almost as high as the Frontier 90 (and in certain cars it will be higher due to the angle installed) but it only harnesses to 65 pounds and is around $80-$100. It's a convertible so you would need to buy a dedicated booster once she's ready but you can get a good booster for under $100, making your total less then a Frontier. As for when to booster her the recommendation is that she be at a MINIMUM 4 and 40 pounds AND have the maturity to sit still with no fiddling with the seatbelt or leaning out of place even when sleeping (this maturity often can take a few more years to develop). Hope I made sense, I'm just waking up and have not had coffee yet.
