Hello,
My son will be outgrowing his infant car seat soon. We were given a Evenflo Symphony Convertible Car Seat at our baby shower a little over a year ago.
We also have a 2001 for expedition. It does not have lower latch contactors, so I HAVE to use the seat belt.
The problem is we cannot get the seat belt tight enough rear facing with no more than 1 inch of movement at the belt path. As tight as it will go it still moves about 3-4 inches side to side front to back (getting into the car seat pushing down with all my might and pulling the seat belt). My car seat belt has an automatic locking mechanism.
I have read the manual countless times and watched countless install videos. It seems that other people with older vehicles have the same installation issues with his car seat. The people who could get it installed in their older vehicles stated that it took them 45 minutes to get a good install.
I have seen a lot of people answer with comments like: theirs works great with the surlatch system. I cannot use the surelatch system. I thought about trying to retrofit it into my vehicle, but there are not retrofit lower anchor kits.
I think the seat would work great if I had the anchors, but I don't.
This is kind of a last stitch effort, before we go out and purchase another car seat. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting a proper install in an older vehicle utilizing this car seat.
I tried to get it to work before my son was born (spent 3 hours trying to get a good install). My husband and I just tried again and spend another hour trying. I am definitely calling the company to complain. Everyone says that most car seats are not installed correctly, maybe they should make them easier to install....
