Question Hyundai Elantra and Sonata

I posted we were looking at the Kia Optima, Ford Fusion and Mazda 6.

We have ruled out the later two but now in addition to the Kia Optima we are looking at the Hyundai Elantra and Sonata.

Safety of those vehicles compared to the Optima?

IIRC, you were looking at used...is that still the case? That would color our recommendations on which car to recommend.

Yeah used.

Did a search on IIHC and looks like the Elantra and Optima have good ratings going back to 2011 (wouldn't get older than that) but the Sonata is only good in the recent year or two.

Not sure on safety, but an ease of use comment on the sonata -- I've been driving a 2013 up until today as a rental while my car was in the shop and it is the hardest car to load a kid rear facing into EVER. The way the door profile is designed makes it a total nightmare.

That's good to know. Wonder if the Elantra is shaped the same way ?

The 2012+ Elantra is on my short list for a relatively safe used car for my teen drivers. It's about as small and light as I would go, though. The 2011+ Optima and 2012+ Focus are also in the mix. Not sure on carseats, though.

The 2010 Sonata is a pain to load RF as a PP mentioned. The seats also have a slope. The door design makes it hard to get taller seats in, period. My dad has one.

I have a 2010 Elantra and have never had issues with any of a variety of seats. It does seem tight back there with two seats. I don't think three across would ever work.
