Travelling on St. Martin/St. Maarten

We are going on a cruise next month and dh wants to go to Orient Beach, which is on the opposite side of the island from the port. The only way to get there is by taxi. Apparently it's very hard to come by a taxi that has seatbelts, let alone a top tether anchor. I was thinking about getting a Go and a Bubblebum, but now I don't know what to do in light of this info. Any thoughts?

Last I was there was 10 years ago, but generally Caribbean taxis have rarely have properly working belts. Other than renting a car, there's not much to be done if you don't have seat belts.

As an aside, you do know that Orient Beach is a nude beach, right?

We've been on two cruises with kids so far and both times we ended up waiting until we got to the ports to check out the transportation options since we were unsure if there would be a way to safely transport the kids. On our last cruise we were scheduled to stop in St Martin but weren't able to. We spent our honeymoon there in 2007 and I don't remember many seat belts around. We have generally done things within walking distance to the port on our cruises with the kids as I worry about getting to a beach and being unable to find a safe way back.
