How on earth does the 40 accommodate a taller child when they appear to be identical dimensions? The only difference I see is the base?

Yes. The base adjusts for older kids. I doubt it will get them near 40lbs for an average kid but it does adjust to sit more upright.

So the bucket without the base is exactly the same? I was debating the 40 on the assumption it was bigger but will mostly be installing baseless in taxis
