I am expecting and my husband drives a 1998 2-door Jeep Wrangler. We need a rear-facing infant car seat. The back seat only has two seat belts with lap and shoulder harnesses. Because of this, we can not install a car seat rear-facing between the two front bucket seats. Please help. We are currently looking at the Graco Snugride models but are open to finding the safest option. Thank you for any help you can give.

Welcome! I'm not sure how much space you have in the back seat because of having to install behind a front seat, but if you are limited in front-to-back space, consider one of the Cybex Aton infant seats or the Chicco KeyFit 30. They are the shortest and are nice seats as well. If front-to-back space isn't an issue, the SnugRides are a good choice. I would look at models that have lockoffs on the base for ease of installation: SnugRide 35 LX Click Connect, Snug 35 Classic Connect, Snug 40 Click Connect.

While the center of the back seat is the safest from side impacts, if you can't install a carseat there, don't sweat it. A rear-facing carseat is very safe and that's the most important part--keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible.

My dh had an '01 Wrangler when our dd was born, and I think yours is the same body style. She never rode in the Jeep in an infant seat (it wasn't his main vehicle), but we had good luck with a True Fit in the backseat. I also used a Radian in the front seat with the airbag turned off with the key switch. It's not really a three person vehicle, though. Hopefully you can find something that will work for him to drive the baby and you can take your vehicle when you travel as a family.
