A Couple of Travel Questions

We are flying to visit relatives for Thanksgiving and I have a couple of questions. My 17 month old is 27 lbs and in an Evenflo Triumph rear facing in our car. Can I face her forward on the plane? I think she might be easier to entertain on the plane that way.

Second, my 3 year old is 40lbs and 40" and in a Britax Marathon. I dread the through of lugging that monster through the airport and on the plane. I was thinking of purchasing a backless booster which I could easily fit in a carry on bag. I know I can't use it on the plane, but would she be safe enough in the car using a backless booster?

Thanks for any help!

You 17 month old should be fine facing forward on the airplane, though still much safer rear-facing in the car.

Since you have a Marathon, I think that is by far your safest option in the vehicle, plus you can use it on the plane as well. The backless booster should provide adequate protection in a frontal crash if your 3-year old is mature enough to sit properly in a seat belt for the whole trip. The backless booster would be less safe in a side impact and in any case where your child has squirmed out of position.

Thanks. I think we may lug the Marathon with us. I think my biggest concern is being able to install it correctly in the rental car. I had a terrible time when I first bought it, which was made evident when the car seat inspector looked at my installation job.
