I found this site a little after I had my DS in 2011. I just wanted to thank everyone for the help I have had for the last few years. Just reading posts and reviews and questions has been a great education. Car-seats can be confusing. Also, I just turned my 2y8m DS RF (has been FF since 2y). Thought it was too late and he would hate it, but it was basically his idea. DH doesn't know yet, so we will see the next time he rides with us.
The first seat we bought was the Snugride 35 classic connect in 2011. I used it for my DS (10/06/11) until he was about 18 months. When I was expecting my DD (06/05/13) we bought a Scenera to keep DS RF. I have to say it was nearly impossible to install a Scenera (for the first time) RF while 8.5 months pregnant. We turned him FF slightly before the 34" minimum (at 2y) then a few months ago we got a Maestro for DS so we could use the Scenera for DD. DD was in the SR35 until 12 months (this week). She has tons of growing room, still on the 2nd slots, but my sister had an Evenflo Tribute she didn't need. The Tribute is easier to install RF than the Scenera, although I have gotten better at it. While taking out the SR35 I was playing with the 4 carseats and my son decided he wanted to use the Scenera (it was in DH's car waiting for DS to use it). I installed it Rearfacing and he seems quite happy being the same way as his little sister. He can stay RF for 2-3lbs, maybe past 3ys. Now we have an extra Maestro that can go in DH's car.
With help and advice I have gotten here my kids are:
DS 2y8m 32-33lbs 35" (torso at 13") switched to rearfacing in a Scenera (on the second from top slot)
DD 12m 21-22lbs 28.5" rearfacing in a Tribute (barely even with 2nd slot)
Apparently, the Scenera and Tribute were made for my kids. DS will be 35 lbs around the time or before he is 1" from the top of shell. Right now he has about 2" to grow. With his stats he might even make it to 40lbs FF before his ears are above the shell. Nice to have short kids when it comes to carseats!
Thanks again - it's nice to come where I am not the "crazy car-seat lady". Most of my family thinks I am crazy -still working on getting my nephews into safe seats (or seats at all at this point).
