Travel booster?

We're going on a family trip to Hawaii, which will include long rides in the car. When DS is tired he sleeps in the car (pretty well in a booster actually).

Anyways, he needs a booster for Hawaii, but I have no idea what to buy. I had him sit in one of the folding Compass boosters, but he's about to be above the belt guide. I could be wrong, but I think the B570 has the same top guide height as the Harmony Travel booster..

We'll be moving DS between cars on the trip, so I'd prefer not to bring a harnessed seat.

I'm thinking the best solution all around is an RSTV, except for the fact that DS will be pretty toasty in this.

What am I missing? What else could we buy?

Does he definitely need a high back?

DD1 is in a HBB at home, but when we traveled this winter, we took a Bubblebum for her. She did fine even on long car rides and with sleeping in a backless for the first time.

What does he use normally? Can you just take that?

Nauti in HBB mode :-/ Definitely don't want to lug that around.

He is almost 8, maybe I should try a NBB before the trip. They make me nervous though :O

While we were visiting DH's family rode in a backless TB for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it fit (she's quite small for her age) and she was so proud of getting to sit in it that she as very compliant about staying in position, etc. I'd give a backless a try before your trip!

Will there be someone sitting in back with him? If so (or if someone could) I'd definitely take a backless and call it good. My DS used a backless for our spring break trip and when he was falling asleep I'd sit in back with the kids so I could keep him upright. He's only 6 though and becomes a noodle when he falls asleep (could also be that the built in headrests push his head forward because they only hit the very top of his head).
