So I was thinking that maybe a way to get top tethers in all rear seating postitions in vehicles might be to start a White House Petition. Thoughts?

Probably better to petition NHTSA and write to congressional representatives, but I wouldn't hold my breath. They move at the speed of slugs, and this probably wouldn't be high on their priority list, especially since lobbying by the auto manufacturers would likely kill it right away, even if it did get considered.

I realize petitioning NHTSA would be the traditional way, but I was thinking that if all techs and parents that had faced trying to properly restrain their children to best practice standards made their voices heard, not only would the government hear them, then maybe the vehicle manufacturers would hear.

It could be shared and tagged on FB- - take on a life of its own. At any rate, was just thinking. Too many times parents buy a vehicle with a plan of how to seat their kids and end up either not tethering, won't tether, or do not have enough tethers, or being inconvienced by having to put RFers in the 3rd row because there is only one tether back there.

I think educating parents on the importance of tether use goes a lot further. Most vehicles have tether anchors that are sufficient for most families using them and it's a matter of getting them used. Yes, large families with closely spaced kids run into trouble with three anchor vehicles, but they are a small percentage of families, and with education those families might be able to plan to buy a different vehicle when needed rather than being blindsided.
