It's the Carseat Shuffle...

What should I do with the carseats at my parents this summer (for the purposes of this discussion, we're going to ignore DD's bucket...) I've got two RFers, DS2 and DD.

They've got a pre-2012 TF and my sister says I can use her MR. I could also bring my SureRide. DS2 is 30lbs or more and about 3' even. I'd prefer to put him in the TF I think, but he's awfully close if not over its RF limit, especially clothed. Will DD at 11-12lbs fit reasonably in it? (I can't remember if it's a good NB seat.) I'd prefer to put DD in the MR, but I think I'll need to make use of its higher limits for DS2 (and he'll make good use of the cupholders. ;) )

Hauling the SureRide doesn't really turn my crank. It's tall shell and required 45 degree angle make it somewhat unwieldy. I'd probably want to use it for DD if I did since DS2 is WELL over the last (Canadian) RF slot. Having it FF on the plane appeals though.

There will inevitably be carseat shuffling since we don't have our "own" car while we're there (which is why DD's bucket isn't factoring in to this discussion.) Primary vehicle will be '97 Suburban, alternates will include '06 Volvo XC70 and '09 (?) Pilot.

Thoughts?

Both of my boys fit well in the TF with the infant insert at birth. They were 8lbs2oz and 8lbs11oz and both were 21". Other than that, I got nothing :/.

Yep, TF is a good newborn seat. (Wendy had Laine in it from day 1.) She'll fit fine in it as long as you still have the inserts. Put DS in the Myride so you know he's not over the weight limit and DD in the TF and you'll be fine. :)

So what about the TF for a noobie WITHOUT the inserts? (I'm not sure they can be found.)

Curious why you're not taking the bucket? Forget which one you have.

I didn't say I wasn't taking it. ;) It's going to be the "floater". I'll put two "permanent" seats somewhere (the Suburban, likely.)

Do you have the true fit at home to try out with the little one? As long as her shoulders are above the bottom slots without the insert, you can use it without.

No, unfortunately, it's in BC, and the seats and vehicle are already waiting for us in Calgary (without the insert, but that's okay with the bucket.)

I had the insert from mine laying around and it's either still in the house or DH threw it away 3 weeks ago when selecting stuff for garage sale. If I still have it and it will work with that TF (I think they did various styles of inserts but I'm not sure it matters which style is used), I can mail it to Calgary to meet you.

That's very nice! I might take you up on that (if I can be sure my BIL won't throw them out on arrival, lol. ;) )

If she's narrow-built I wouldn't count on the TF fitting. It would NOT have fit Katie Sue or Emma, who have narrow builds, at birth despite long torsos. (It WOULD have fit Bridget or Maggie, who have wide shoulders, fine.)
