Using booster seat on plane

Flew yesterday for the first time with a booster seat. I checked the back in my luggage and took the backless portion on the plane with me. I was prepared to just put it under the seat in front, but all the flight attendants expected me to use it on the plane. DS is 5.5. I ended up using it on the plane cause it allowed him to see our the window better. I know it is not approved for airline use but is there any reason not to if they allow it?

My understanding is that it is OK to use the booster during the cruise potrion of the flight, but not during take off and landing. Here's a thread that talks about wny no boosters on airplanes:

It's absolutely not allowed during taxi, takeoff, landing (and turbulence?) per FAA regs, so if they allowed/encouraged its use then, they were wrong (assuming it was a US-based carrier, though I think that's the general rule everywhere).

While not disallowed by the FAA for other portions of the flight, it's up to individual airlines to set policies regarding that. In other words, they don't have to let you use it, but if they want to that's fine.

Booster manufacturers do not allow use with lap-only belts.
