Car seat checks :/

T's daycare did its annual seat check and bbq today. For the whole hour we were there no one got their seat checked :( So DH got them to check our seat as much cause he wanted to give them something to do.

It wasn't a super negative experience, just wouldn't say it was positive.
- They had never seen a PVC before, but they didn't want to see the manual even though I showed them where it was.
- She didn't know how to loosen the latch to uninstall it for us to show we knew how to do it.
- She told DH off for his prefered tightening technique (he flips the front seat flat and climbs in behind the seat and uses his weight to tighten it), backtracked on this when she felt how tight he got it though.
- Raised eyebrows but no comment at T still RFing at 26 months
- They were impressed by how much we knew though.

I was unimpressed that they didn't look at the manual to check anything when they hadn't seen the seat before, I also thought they could have been proactive and been asking people at the bbq if they wanted them to check their seats while they were eating or anything.

I guess I thought they should have seemed more interested in what they were doing? They wouldn't have inspired me to listen to them or look into anything if they had raised any issues IYKWIM.

That's very disappointing. I'm glad you know as much as you do - hopefully they learned some things!

For the record your DH's install technique is my preferred one as well, and if someone is physically capable of climbing in and doing that, it is usually a huge light bulb moment. Very empowering for a lot of people, especially those who think they're not strong enough and so therefore have never tried to install before.

Do you know who they're certified through? Their agency might appreciate the feedback, although soliciting customers might be outside the comfort zone/scope of the individual techs

I'm in Sk so they were SGI techs. They weren't awful, it may have been that they didn't think that they had to put any effort in to us as we did seem to know what we were talking about.

It just made me sad that they were in the prime position to make a difference and they seemed more concerned with topping up their tan. Our village has awful car seat usage, I passed a 2 year old standing in the front seat of a truck earlier, and our neighbour drives with their infant on their lap:mad: The daycare tries by holding the seat check and having other events at the same time to encourage people to go. But then the techs didn't even try to get anyones attention when they were there. :(

That's awful. Keep in mind, though, that you *can* call the police regarding your neighbor, and dispatchers will never get mad at you for doing so. That's life and death safety there, and the police will respond to it if they can catch them in the act.
