2011 Odyssey EX vs. 2010 EX-L

OK...

We are down to two options to stay within my DH's budget... a 2011 EX with about 30,000 miles or a 2010 EX-L with about 45,000 miles. Both end up around $22k (or less for the 2010). I've pushed for quite a while to up the budget to about $25k and get a 2011 or 2012 EX-L, but DH is quite firm in his price.

We drove the EX today and we were both disappointed to discover that all of the integrated Bluetooth isn't there on the EX's. I really wanted the hands-free more so than anything else on the EX.

We had three kids in seats across the second row of the 2011 today and I really liked the ability to do that... Put three across the middle and split fold the third row. We camp, go up north, etc. stuff that requires being able to haul more junk along. I know with the 2010 that might not be possible.

What is the audio interface like on the 2010's? Like I said, my big want was that Bluetooth link that is missing from the EX's.

Thoughts?

Ita a bummer they didn't do the Bluetooth on the Ex's for 2011. I think they added it for 2012.

I can't speak to the audio components, but I am completely sure that the '11 is a significantly safer model than the '10, so I would recommend it sight unseen based on that knowledge.

2011.

I don't even use my Bluetooth, especially since data supports that it's driver distraction (talking on the phone) and not holding your telephone while talking that is problematic. I had a 2008 Touring and I have a 2011 Touring. I would rather have a 2011 EX versus a 2010 EX-L. If you really want Bluetooth, you can add that on aftermarket (it's not as good unless you swap your deck, but meh).. You can't fix the seating arrangement aftermarket :)

For us the seating configurations were better on the '10 than the '11, so we went with that one. I wanted one kid in the third row, and I liked being able to move a seat over so he could access the back. (At the time the second row had rear-facers, so no going through the middle). If you don't plan on using the third row much, though, the '11 is probably better. Bluetooth option is nice.

Well, we ended up going with neither option! A 2012 EX popped up today. Not too far, good price, one of my preferred colors... And we've got a deposit down!! Too late on Saturday to finish financing with our credit union, but it's ours.

Turns out that the Bluetooth comes in the 2012 EX's, and according to the dealer, in the 2014's in the LX's. Anyway, DH and I have come to a long fought for agreement. We've got a deposit down, but need to get our trade in down there, and sign the final paperwork.

That's great! Congrats...you really made the right decision as the new model is about the only car that I know of on the market that can fit 3 car seats of any size all the way across the middle row with their "wide-mode" setting on the seats. Plus, the 3rd row is much more comfortable for adults if you needed to ever get back there vs. the older body style. And lastly, for resale...you are in the newest body style. If the time comes 4-5 years down the road when you want to trade it in, you will only be one body style behind, not two. Makes a big difference.

I'm not sure if you mean the only Honda or the only car, but my '09 sienna with 8 pass. fits several configs of 3 across the 2nd row. Indeed that's why I picked it.

No, I meant any car. While all cars can fit some sort of tetris-like configuration of certain brands of car seats 3 across...Honda has a new setting I haven't seen on any other van yet and that's "wide-mode". The two captain chairs will literally pull out from the middle about 2 inches providing enough room that you can put ANY configuration of ANY manufactured car seats side-by-side across the middle row. The Sienna when we last looked at cars, couldn't offer that configuration...not to mention two seats side by side in the captain & middle still allowing free flow of the second captain chair to move back and forth without impediment & full comfort for an adult if they were to sit back there. The car seat we had hung over the middle seat a little into the second captain preventing the seat from doing the fold back.

Here she is!!! Went and got it today! Very happy! Handles great! Much smoother ride than my old
van and so much quieter than DH's Mazda 5 that I've been driving. Love that I can put any combo of kids across the center. Love the Handsfree Bluetooth connectivity and USB interface. So pleased!
