Question Cars that hold 3 car seats in one row

I am looking for a new car, not a mini-van or an SUV, that will safely hold 3 car seats. One of the car seats can be a booster car seat, one will have to be rear facing, and the other will be forward facing. Do you know any cars that will fit these 3 type of car seats? Thanks.

Hi and welcome!

There are very few cars that cannot accommodate three car seats. Sometimes you have to be choosy about which seats you use, if you have a particularly narrow car, but three across is certainly possible.

Our primary car was a Ford Fusion for several years. I had several different configurations in that car but the last one we had was a Britax Parkway SG behind the driver, a Diono Radian rear facing center and a Britax Frontier 85 behind the passenger. The booster was a bit tricky to buckle, but my dd (who was 7 at the time) could buckle on her own most of the time.

I'm thinking Chevy Impala...not the current version but 2013 and earlier. Although the headrests are immovable so it won't work with a lot of boosters....

3 real sets of LATCH and nice and wide!

Not the easiest, but you will definitely need to look at the width of what car seats you currently have as you may need to get new ones there as well as a new car. Boosters will have a hard time in most if not all cars with 2 seats next to it as it will be tough for your little one to buckle his/her seat belt between the booster and the car seat. You may want to look at 5-point harness there.

Also, it almost seems that every 3 car seat across in cars has a Diono in the middle. It's about the narrowest car seat you can get that still is safe & a good value (they aren't cheap, but last for 10 years).

What seats do you have?

Car-seat.org's "Successful 3 Across" thread in the Installation and Technical section of the forum at http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=33226 can also provide you with suggestions for 3 carseats installed in specific vehicles. Another suggestion is to bring your current carseats to try out installing them in potential new cars as part of your car shopping and test driving process to determine compatibility before deciding which car to purchase/lease.
