DD hates her Frontier straps - help!

DD has been in her new Frontier 90 for two months now. I have her in harness mode even though she could be boostered (she uses a Parkway in DH's car and does just fine) because we are 3-across in my car. She likes the Frontier, except that she continues to say that the straps are really uncomfortable. I don't think she's protesting being harnessed generally, but she says that the straps make her neck achy. I think from what I can tell, the straps are just set too narrowly? Like they are too close to her neck? She complains no matter what she is wearing (t-shirt or sweater), and the straps have the covers on them, so they're not digging in to her neck. I think it might have more to do with the pressure they're somehow putting on her neck? I think they are positioned correctly - just at or slightly higher than her shoulders. It doesn't help if we loosen the straps a bit, so I don't think it has to do with them being too tight either. She didn't complain about this at all in the Radian that she used until just two months ago.

It's getting to the point where she is dreading getting in to the car because of the "uncomfy straps", and she's had a few rides where she's cried for the first five minutes because of them. If she gets distracted talking with her brother or reading or whatever, it's not as much of a problem. But I'm feeling like she probably has a legitimate complaint, so I thought I'd check to see if you all have any advice/insight about what to check or change so she can be more comfortable. Or should I just switch her to booster mode and figure out how to deal with buckling in a 3-across situation (a stinkin' tight one in our 2005 Outback)? I was hoping to keep her harnessed for a while still if possible (which is why I was willing to spend so much money on a Frontier).

(hope this is posted in the right spot)

Hm, are they maybe too high? You might see if there is a click down that still keeps them at above. I'm not sure what else would help.

Maybe call Britax and see if taking off the black padded comfort strap covers is OK??? Not the grey plastic HUGS pads. I know those need to stay on. That might give her a wee bit more room between the straps.

I sure hope Britax is OK with taking the black padded strap covers off. I removed them to see how they make a difference and now DS won't let me put them back on. He says it is way more comfortable without them. I shouldn't be whining though. He also started complained about FF in DH's van because he doesn't like the way his legs dangle. He asked me to get his old Foonf out of storage so he could re-RF.

It took my son a little while to get used to the FR (from the RF RN). I think it just felt weird compared to his old familiar straps. He has gotten used to it, and doesn't complain anymore.
