Travel to NY and cruise

Hi,
I am struggling with coming up with a solution that works for us in this situation. We are flying this summer to New York and then getting on a cruise. We are spending two days on either end of the cruise in New York. I am trying to figure out the safest way to travel with our kids.

7 year old-I think traveling with her Bubble bum will be enough. If we use a taxi or super shuttle service she will be good.

3.75 year old-I am stumped here. We will need to take a shuttle to the airport from home, something on the plane, taxi or shuttle to the airport and transportation to the port. However, it does not seem practical at all to carry a convertible car seat around new york or to try to find space to store it on the ship and hotel. But I am not comfortable with no restraints in these situations either. We will use public transit as much as possible throughout New York but I am pretty uncertain what we will do for everything else.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Joanna

Would a Ride Safer Travel Vest work for you? How much does she weigh? They have been a life safer for travel for us. They can be a bit of a pain to use, but we travel by train quite a bit and they are great for things like this!

I think that would work for the car and shuttle rides. He is just over 30 pounds so can just fit into the size small. Can he just use the seatbelt on the plane? We have always had him in his car seat when we have flown.

He can sit on the plane seat or you can grab a cares harness for the plane. If you get a ride safer vest, make sure to get the ride safer 2. The 3 is not approved for use in cars from what I understand.

All 3 NY-area airports have public transit into the city, and once you're there you can walk or take transit everywhere. If your cruise don't involve any shore excursions where a carseat would be needed, I'd be inclined to do CARES on the flight and not bring a carseat.

On the other hand, a lightweight convertible carseat would give you additional flexibility and really wouldnt be that big of a burden. I've never had trouble stashing one in a hotel room, but of course cruise staterooms are tighter (though some previous posts here have mentioned successfully stowing it onboard).

I should add -- the CARES-only option only works if you can gr to your "home" airport on transit, your own car, or perhaps a neighbor with carseats.
