Vent... Daycare kid and puke in the carseat...

Had a daycare kid puke all over himself and the carseat on the way home today... I know it's not his fault but ewww... My nose is still a super sensitive preggo nose so it took me 5 minutes to get him out without puking myself... And it's my dreaded eb 3n1 which has the worlds worst cover to take off... (Ok maybe not the worst but the worst of my seats...)

I know how to properly clean it, the straps, etc but it's just a pain... If I didn't need the seat and use it regularly it would just be going in the trash...

Thanks for listening! And I don't blame him at all bc no one can help that but it would happen when I'm preggo! Hahaha!

I'd totally use that as an excuse to ditch the 3in 1. I hate that seat.

I would too! I would carefully remove it from the car and promptly dispose of it! Sorry that happened while you are preggo. I can barely clean a puked all over seat when not preggo!

I'm going to hide behind a rock when I say this but it actually has been a decent seat for me... Aside from the short lifespan size wise and the pain in the arse cover it has installed well in our cars... This child is pushing the 40 lbs tho so I need to switch him out soon anyway... I think the cover may be enough of a issue to consider tossing it tho and getting the sureride... I just wish manufactures would come up with a way to make straps fireproof (edit- fire resistant) while letting us throw them in the wash... Did I mention it was in the third row of the van so to get it out I have to take out a radian and fold the seat so I don't risk the puke getting elsewhere? :p

Good thing about a heavily puked on seat is I probably don't have to "destroy" it much to discard it. :p

And thanks- yeah I have a pretty weak stomach anyway too!

The covers are washable but you have to be careful with the straps bc machine washing them destroys the fire retardant.

I just pulled the seat out and it's not as bad as I thought cover wise... I called dorel (somewhat curious to see if they'd just offer replacement straps since diono is so great about free replacements...) and they said a completely new harness would only be $12 shipped... I think it's going to be that route for now instead of cleaning or buying a new seat. There is still over 4.5 years left til expiration in the seat... So it stays... :p

Ditto.

And it's not because of fire retardants that straps can't be soaked/industrially cleaned. It's because of possible warping/weakening of the fibers.

FTR, I ditched a Complete Air once because it got majorly puked on.

That's the first I've ever heard of the fire-retardant issue. I mean, I know soaking and washing can reduce the amount of flame retardants, but if that were the true concern, people wouldn't be allowed to wash covers, either. (One of the tips for reducing flame retardants in covers is to wash them a few times. If people are so inclined to get rid of them. Which I typically am.)

Yeah, I'd probably ditch the seat.
Puke is the one thing that really, really grosses me out.

I only cleaned it from the carpeting when it happened here once because we can't just get rid of the carpeting (easily anyway).

There has been only one puke incident in a seat but it was all on his shirt and almost none got on the cover. I washed the strap covers though, since it got on those.

My dd puked in her TF a few weeks ago. Of course it went straight down the front of her, so her straps were soaked in it. It was not fun cleaning those without submerging them. I had to take an old toothbrush (just barely damp) to them to get it out of all the little cracks. Ugh. Luckily it happened in dh's truck while I was working, so he had to deal with most of it, not me. ;) I was only in charge of cleaning the seat.

All that work for naught! Tomy allows the straps to get saturated.
