Keeping vehicle seats clean

J2 is still rear facing... so I have grubby seats. Well, had. DH got off work a couple hours early today and instead of sitting around doing nothing, he decided to clean our cars - including scrubbing the back seat down. I knew they were dirty (I have light gray interior and the seat J2's seat is installed in was pretty much black), but with them being clean now I'm very much hoping to keep them clean.

I've seen about a towel draping down the vehicle seat back to protect it. Is that an actually okay thing? I get confused on where I read legit things and where I read "thou must never do this" things :p and then wind up not doing them or asking redundant questions here.

If it's a legit thing, how do you secure the bottom? Or would I leave it loose? Would it be okay to have it so the bottom inch or so is between the Radian and the vehicle seat to secure it, or does it need to not go in between?

Thanks :) I'm really enjoying the clean car. I keep mine tidy but not so much clean. This is just great.

Yes, a towel or thin "seat back protector" is ok and can be tucked in an inch or so I to the spot where the radian contacts the seat back (near the harness adjuster.)
Wendy told me it was ok when I asked the same thing a while back ;)
I use the Brica kick mat which was available at target. It's designed to go on the back of the drivers seat to protect from a ff or boostered kid from kicking there. It's nylon type material and pretty thin.
In my van in a capt chair I out an old, dark, T-shirt on the chair. The headrest sticks up through the neck hole of the t-shirt.

Thanks! We have a bunch of old towels that don't have a full set anymore, so I was going to do that, and just poke holes in the top area to put the headrest spikes though. If that was okay ;)

I didn't care that the car was dirty this morning. Really. But now? I want it to stay clean. Ha!

I have a brand new car, just a month old and this time it has beige seats. Not my first choice but beige was the only interior color available for the exterior color I wanted, so I gave in because I love the exterior color.

I have the Britax kick mats on the back of my seats. I also have the rule that the kids can only have water in the car, and no eating in my car. I know that isn't possible for everyone though. I occasionally might give in to something like goldfish crackers, but absolutely nothing greasy or sticky!

If it's a captains chair, you can even just slide an old t-shirt over the seat. Just make sure you don't have side airbags in the seat- it shouldn't be a concern on a rear seat but just double check.

Ha, sadly no. Most of the time food in the car would be a treat and I could easily say no, but frequently it's "oh crap we have to eat NOW on the way to ((place))! We're going to be late as it is!" But crumbs and such aren't really even the issue. I've never had a problem with them. Just the foot marks from J2. And now J1's muddy baseball cleats... but that's an easy fix.

It's I guess a bench seat? Standard back row of an RX350. The back can fold down and I'm pretty sure it can fold in 3 separate sections not just 2.

Nour & Zain's mom also just bought a new car about two weeks ago. It also has a beige interior, but she has leather (mine is fabric). There were black scuff marks from the kids' shoes where their feet would hang. I thought she was going to strangle them! We did get them cleaned off but she immediately went out and bought kick mats and thin seat covers for under the seat (boosters) in addition to the rubber floor mats to cover all of the carpet!

Does this look right? Does the towel go too low? It's not down to the... bight?... Down where the boot goes "into" the seat.

I have plenty of other towels to cut up if this isn't right.

Looks good to me. I actually pulled mine even lower so my boys couldn't kick it out, if that makes sense. Not quite all the way to the bight, but close.

Thanks! If J2 can kick this out I'll try another one, lower. It was easier than I thought it would be (not sure why I thought it would be difficult?).

I also have a Pria. It won't interfere with that either? Trying to picture it I can't imagine how it would.
