pioneer 70 why the price reduction

So at my local BRU I saw several pioneer 70 for 185 marked down from 229 on a sale shelf. The regular car seat shelf had the "same" pioneer 70 priced at 229. Now I see this same discrepancy when I do online searches as well. Is this related to the iihs rating and the changes in seats or am I way off. Do I not go ahead and buy the cheaper one if I wanted? I plan to keep my son harnassed for as long as possible so I am not rushing him to a seatbelt before he is ready.

The Pioneer got a "rolling change" a few months back to raise the harness height.

It's likely in my opinion that the clearanced ones are older, and do not have as high a harness height. There may have been a change in the coding, which is why they would have known which ones to clearance off as older stock.

Isnt the harness height 18.5? I can double check the clearanced one. Is that thr only thing I should be concerned about?

The harness height on new ones has gone up to 19.5. :)

It might be an older date of manufacture, and it might not have other minor changes made, but it's still perfectly safe to use. (As long as you can get a proper install... which is difficult in some/many cars with the Pioneer.)

That's what I was thinking.

BRU now only carries their super comfort-y version, I forget what it's called, but it's loaded with memory foam and costs $234, so everything else was clearanced.
