Using the frontier 90 as a booster without the top tether

Is it ok? Dd wants her pink seat (parkway sgl) in my odyssey and her flower seat (frontier 90) in hubby's ford fusion. The only problem I have with this is I cannot stand the tether anchors in the fusion. They are flat instead of round and while attaching the tether is easy it once took me 20 minutes to untether a radian! The frontier would be latched, just not tethered. Since it's really only to hold the seat when it's unoccupied that should be ok, right?

I would check with Britax. There could be implications from the lower part of the seat being held in place while the upper part moves forward in a crash. I know dedicated boosters with a latch strap don't have a top tether but those seats are lighter...
