Is it okay to use an expired/crashed/outgrown seat for the stroller only?

Let's say you had a newborn and your stroller didn't recline deeply enough to be used with a newborn. Could you use a crashed (no visible damage to the shell or harness) or expired seat with your compatible stroller until the kid was ready for the normal stroller seat?

Or let's say your kid has technically outgrown their seat (like their head is less than 1 inch from the top of the shell), but still is comfortable in it and prefers to be parent-facing while strolling. Could you still keep using the infant seat with the stroller? If it were outgrown by weight, would that make a difference?

I am mostly just curious, but I also have a sister who has never put her baby in the stroller without the car seat and would rather keep using it as long as it's safe to do so. Also, last summer when we had to replace our infant seat following a crash, we considered replacing it with a convertible, but I wasn't sure if she was ready for the regular stroller seat yet. Curious as to whether we could have continued to use our crashed seat with the stroller if we'd wanted.

Sure :). It's a great way to keep using a seat that might not be crashworthy, but is still structurally sound. I recommend it a lot for kids who are too heavy for their infant seat (well, I did, back when seats were mostly to 20/22 pounds!) but not sitting well enough to be in a restaurant high chair or whatever... travel safely in the convertible, and use the infant seat as a carrier.

We have been using an expired Boulevard 65 as a "recliner" for the kids in the living room. The only reason we stopped is because it was heavy and constantly falling over backwards. But that thing got dragged all over the house and used in just about every room before I finally got tired of it and replaced it with lightweight Ikea kids chairs.

I would be concerned about the weight limit. If the seat is perched higher on the stroller might it change the center of gravity creating the possibility of tipping over? forward or back? It has been awhile since I have had a stroller person.....:p
