Recaro Performance Sport or Frontier 90?

I'm trying to plan for DS1's next seat. DH is pretty set on turning him when he turns 4 in a few months. I'm planning to wait until he asks but I am also trying to keep an eye out for deals on seats for him. There's a deal on the Performance Sport that makes it about $155 for me right now. I don't know much about Recaros and I was just planning to get a FR90 since it seems often recommended around here. DS1 is currently just about 35lbs and just about 40" at 3y8m. He is usually pretty steadily in the 55-60 percentile for height.

I love my ProSport (older Performace Sport.) It will get you 2" less seated height than the Frontier, and is a trickier install, though. If I had a kid where that 2" didn't matter, and I was going to install it and leave it, I would lean towards the Performance Sport - just because my kidlets have found it so comfy. Nanny kid has a F90 and has no complaints.

I don't think you would go wrong with either :)

I used both and wound up sticking with the Recaro. My kids won't need the extra harness height, and I actually prefer the install to the Frontier. I mean, the Frontier is "easier," I suppose, but locking a seatbelt seems more natural. Both are great seats, though.

I love everything about our ProSport except the lack of cup holders. We have a FR85 too and like it but I love the fit in booster mode on the ProSport. The FR85 belt fit is not great on ds3 (5.5) in booster mode and his head slumped forward the couple of times we tried it as a booster. We do not have those issues in the ProSport.

I chose the ProSport over the Frontier. So, having never owned the Frontier I can't compare the two, but I can say that we have no complaints about our Recaro from me or the kid who sits in it. He loves his red seat! I love that he can buckle and unbuckle himself. We turned him FF at 4 with this seat to pass down the Radian. I think either one is probably a good choice, and $155 is a great price.
