Backless booster for younger kid

Colton is 6 years 3 months, something like 45-46" and roughly 41 lbs. He likes to go on "parts runs" with his great grandpa. I am thinking about getting him a cheap (Literider maybe?) backless to use. It's an extended cab pickup, so I'm actually not sure how the belt fit would be, so I guess that's something I'd have to check. But it would be easier on great grandpa to just have a small backless he could store under the seat when he wasn't using it for Colton. Thoughts? I'm confident there would be zero sleeping happening, because Colton prefers to just talk Papas ears off. Also, no side curtain airbags. Trips would probably be once a month or so, maybe slightly more frequent in the summer, but definitely not more than once a week.

He's over 6 so as long as the belt fits well and he has head support, I see no problems with a backless. :)

I am not a tech or anything, but I think a harmony youth booster from Walmart would probably be fine. I know in my minivan in the captains chair a tiny 5 year old fits with good belt fit in the harmony youth booster that was $13 at Walmart when I bought it. I am guessing with no side curtain air bags most people will tell you that you need a high back booster.

The Literider/youth booster has always given great belt fit everywhere I tried it even with my very petite DD2. She's now almost 9 48" & 46lbs and has used one off and on since she turned 7. Definitely worth a try IMO.

I agree with the others. In 1st grade, my just turned 6 year old started carpooling to school 20 minutes away. In a backless booster. I was going to do a HBB until I saw the carpool kids buckled in their vehicle. I decided that there would be a lot less errors with the less anyone had to remember.

I would certainly let a six year old ride in a backless in this situation, seeing as there are adequate head restraints and he won't be sleeping.

I agree that the LiteRider would be a good place to start, it fits tiny kids well.

I hope Colton has fun with Great Grandpa!

Eli was/is with me in the car now so seldom or randomly that's it's easier to keep a spare lite rider in the trunk for him. It's better than having nothing at all for him so I've been ok with it since he was about 5.

We had a situation earlier this week where ds did something weird to his seat belt and had to ride in dd's LiteRider for a short distance. It gave him a great belt fit.

The lite rider fits my slightly smaller six year old really nicely. He's only used it twice but it's a nice tiny seat to keep around for a backup/in the trunk for emergencies.
