Question Infant Seats-longevity

Is there a hands-down, longest lasting infant bucket on the market? Mom uses bus and cabs regularly and the bucket will be used until it cannot possibly be used any longer! TIA!!

Oooh and has to be able to be used with out the base. European belt path allowed would get super extra bonus points.

Graco SnugRide Click Connect 40

Curiosity, is this one really bigger than the 35? I know it's (or have heard/read) that is prolly won't actually last a child to 35"(I may be wrong on the height) and 40lbs limits, but is it larger enough to get a significantly more (say 6 months) amount of time out of it?

its essentially the same but the headrest goes up past the shell slightly, and you can use it until 1" of headrest is left so a bit more time. not a lot though for the average child.

for a small or short torso'd child? probably 2.5 years!
(my 29mo old fits in the SR35 with still 1.5" above his head. we dont use it anymore but he technically still fits)

35"+ kiddo in CC40. Regrettably, no top of shell measurement. (and I can't find it in the database...?) (Ah, found this, says 19.5... http://csftl.org/graco-infant-seats-whats-the-difference/)

8 month old already in top slots of Onboard... http://carseatblog.com/6369/safety-1st-onboard-35-air-review-more-wows/
Top of shell is about 21" though http://carseatblog.com/6101/safety-1st-onboard-35-air-quick-review-one-word-wow/

Finding a really good stroller with either of those is kind of tough, I'm thinking like a Baby Jogger, something sturdy, because there are no attachment bars for Safety 1st or Click Connects yet. But the Lift LX (Onboard) or Graco Aire3 (SR35--my dd was tall and fit in it till 19 months...) fold with one hand super duper fast to fling into a taxi trunk, or a Snap N Go or Snugrider will work in terms of fast light stroller frames.

I called baby jogger about an adapter for the click connect seats and was told one was in the works and would hopefully be out in the spring.

For what it's worth the SR40 Click connect is really no bigger than the onBoard. And it's the exact same carrier as the SR35 LX click connect - just with different labels stating different weight and height limits.

Honestly, for someone who rides in cabs frequently - euro belt routing is not a bonus, it's a hassle. I can install an infant seat without the base in under 20 seconds using my technique but having to install with euro routing takes longer and that would get old fast. Plus, cabbies are not exactly known for their patience. Of course you could opt NOT to install using the euro routing and just do standard belt routing instead but personally I wouldn't try to sell someone in this situation on a seat with euro routing.

I would suggest on Onboard 35 (basic model - no reason to pay extra for a premium base that won't get used) or maybe a Shuttle but honestly, I'm not a big fan of the Shuttle. It's difficult to tighten the harness on the lower height settings.

Here's a video showing my baseless install technique:

Just want to mention that in LOVE Kecia's baseless install tecnique! Its super easy and fast, I teach it to most of my infant seat appointments. Figured I just give some credit to Kecia since I dont really explain "it's not really *my* method as much as someone from my car seat forum" at events...lol

I did not know that the click connect SR35LX was the same seat as the click connect 40! I bought the SR35LX for baby on the way and kept going back to the SRCC40 and wondering if I made the right choice. It makes me happy to know they are the same. I kept wondering why the SR35LX was discontinued. I love the head wings on it. So besides the weight and height limits and base recline options, they are the same......like the covers may be interchangeable???

It's not the easiest seat to install rear facing sometimes, b/c if you have to do a seatbelt install and you have trouble w/Euro routing, you may find that it doesn't take up enough of the lap/shoulder belt to get the belt to lock. :( I would find that super annoying if I had to fool w/it very often.

But for a kiddo who can't fit in a long lasting infant seat anymore, it's an easy seat to carry b/c it's lightweight and does have that rolling option...but you could do that, too, by strapping an Evenflo Sure Ride onto a cheap umbrella stroller or using the carry straps for a Radian.
