Convertible car seat suggestions

Hello,

My son is 8 months old, 20lbs, and in the 95% for his height. We are looking to purchase a convertible car seat for him as he is 2lbs away from outgrowing his current one. He is very strong and has great head/neck control.

I prefer the following:
1) Comfortable for him (I don't like the Cosco Scenara)
2) Bigger sides for side impact safety
3) We have a 2010 Jeep Patriot and my husband and I are both tall, so we need the seat to not be very deep. For instance: The Graco MyRide is 27" deep which is way too big for our vehicle. This is the biggest problem I'm running into. I didn't realize how small the vehicle was until now!
4) Works well for RF. I will keep him RF as long as possible, definitely until 2 years and hopefully longer.
5) Last as long as possible for height and weight FF.
6) Affordable. I don't want to pay over $200.

There are so many options and so many reviews. I'm completely overwhelmed.

Please help!
Basics: TALL KID, TALL PARENTS, SMALL VEHICLE, AFFORDABLE, LASTS LONG, SIDE IMPACT SAFETY.

Thanks :)

I'd look at the NextFit, Graco Headwise/MySize/Size4Me/Contender, and Radian with angle adjuster. The NextFit costs over $200 but on sale gets to around $225. It is very tall rearfacing, but it's design makes it take up very little room front to back. The other more compact options like the Britax seats would be outgrown much sooner. The Radian also costs more but is tall and goes to 45lbs rearfacing. With the angle adjuster it takes up less room but it really depends on the vehicle if it will fit. The Graco ones fit well but take up more room as you extend the headrest. They are the tallest rearfacing and go to 40lbs.

I would also look at the nextfit, especially if you have something to trade in at BRU, but today is the last day!!!! You could get 25% off which is great!! Good luck!!

Thank-you for the suggestions! We currently have a chicco and we love it. I was reading the reviews at BRU for the nextfit and it seems like a lot of people have trouble with the straps (difficult to pull tight). Do you have any experience with this? I think it would fit well in our jeep and I love the tall sides! I was trying to avoid that price range, but it would be worth it since it meets all of our needs.

Well the Next Fit is super padded. They're easy to install. You'd likely love it. The Gracos are no better than the Scenera in my opinion cover padding wise.

One thing to remember when making room for tall parents is that your seat should not be overly reclined. Your seat belt should be touching your shoulder so it can do it's job in a crash. Putting your seat up a click or two will make more room.:) Also installing center so that the child seat back is between the front seat helps. And of course, it IS safer if the seat can be safely and correctly installed there.:)
