Flying with a 4 year old- do you use a seat on the plane?

Obviously they need their own seat/ticket, but do you bring their car seat on the plane for them or let them sit in the airplane seat? If you bring their car seat, which do you like to use?

If I have a trusted seat at the destination (like the ones I left at my mom's house), I have let my four year old ride in the airplane seat. If I do not have a seat at the destination, we take our own on the plane and have the child sit in it. We have flown with our Classic Britax seats (Boulevard and Roundabout 50), True Fit, Evenflo Triumph Advance, and Coccoro. Out of those, my preferences would be the Britax and Coccoro.

I always have, simply because he's more comfortable in his carseat and I've never had a trusted/known seat waiting on me at the other end. In fact, we frequently drive another few hours after landing, so having a seat we trust is essential.

I agree, if you need to take a seat with anyway definitely use it on the plane.

For travel seats we liked lighter weight seats that were still easy to install. Once our kids were 4yo they were using our Safeguard Go with a Cares harness on the plane so I don't have experience with seats for bigger kids. The maestro/securekid is definitely one to look at though. Or the Sureride (is that the really tall convertible?)

I didn't once (no seat needed at destination) and boy did I regret it. I will be from now on, she did NOT do well without one.

I did - we also needed the seat at our destination.

But my wiggle worm DD did wonderfully on our flights - including the 9 hr one, by sitting in her Radian on the plane.

People in front of DD on the long flight didn't even realize there was a child behind them until the very end of the flight when an adult passenger caused a disturbance at the back of the plane and they turned around for that.

How long is your flight? My DS1 did really well on a 2.5 hour flight in November without a car seat, at 3y4m. I was worried he wouldn't fit in the seat belt but he did.

At 2.5, DD1 used a CARES on the flight & was fine. She's a mellow kid, though.
Our last trip over the summer at 5 she didn't need anything & we used an RSTV at our destination.

2 hours and yes, we'd need a seat on the other end. Baby needs a seat too so I'm trying to figure out the logistics of 4 kids, 2 car seats, double stroller etc. LOL!
