DH has been happy with his Asus tablet so far. He got it at Walmart to replace his Nook Tablet when it stopped working.

    Re: Best tablet under $100

For the tablets I've bought for my kids, I've gone with specs-and-a-prayer.

Right now, minimum specs for me were:
1GB Ram (512k is common on the really low-end tablets, and is not enough)
4GB storage (8GB is better, but as long as it's got a microSD slot I don't really care)
    1024x600 Resolution screen or better
    Dual-core 1.2+Ghz
    Google Play Store

I got my 12yo this one (for $78) for Xmas, and it's so far worked great (been less than a month, so...)

I bought a tablet from Walmart a year ago (a Filemate) for my other daughter, and it's still going strong- it's got a really nice screen, but is not dual-core so is not what I would buy this year:

If I was choosing from Walmart right this moment, I might consider this one:

But I haven't looked all that carefully at the choices.
