Should buying a G3 online make me nervous?

I am interested in purchasing a G3 Britax. I am not sold on the G4 updates and I'd like to save a little money while the G3 seats are being cleared out.

Questions:

1. Should I try to find an in-store seat so that I can check the date of manufacture before purchasing? I'm a little nervous because I know that these seats are being discontinued and I don't know how long ago Britax stopped manufacturing them.

2. I found a really good deal on Diapers.com. Is it a "red flag" to see a particular seat or color be discounted heavily? Does that mean it's older?

3. Any experience with returning a seat that was ordered online and has no brick-and-mortar shop to go to? How difficult is it?

My mom just got a g3 blvd from diapers.com through amazon with a nov 2012 DOM I think she used her points but the list price $175. Kinda sad a year is already gone in which the seat was not used but still happy with the deal
