latch and seatbelt

I have a random question that no one has been able to answer for me so I figure I'd ask here:

Why do car seat manufacturers say NOT to use both the latch and seat belt together?

Either it hasn't been tested or it's been tested and failed.

Often the belt paths interfere so you can't actually get a tight install very well trying to use both. There is some concern that it might not provide adequate ride down time as well.

There are also exceptions. Combi allows it on the Shuttle, tightly installing with LATCH and then just threading the seatbelt through and locking to get it out of the way basically, if specifically allowed by the vehicle (only Ford to date.) I think one other might be the same. The Clek Foonf allows it in forward facing mode, installing with rigid LATCH and then buckling the belt as long as the anchors don't interfere with the belt and the vehicle doesn't specifically prohibit it (only a few brands do.)

And of course many boosters and combo seats in booster mode use both though that's different!
