Combination seat in booster mode - LATCH?

Would you use a combination seat in booster mode without it being LATCHed in? After much (much, much) debate, I'm not comfortable with DD being in a booster just yet. But I'm needing to get a 2nd car seat for her Grandma's van (old, no LATCH). So I was looking at the Frontier or maybe the Nauti.. both seem really heavy though. I do plan on boostering DD sooner rather than later (she's going to be 5 in a month and 35 lbs)... would the harness-to-booster seats need to be LATCHed in booster mode when the time comes? Are there any super lightweight ones?

They aren't required but I prefer it with super heavy seats like the nauti and frontier (20-25# is a lot to be floating in a seatbelt with a 40-50# child). The evenflo securekid is lighter and cheaper.
