When to measure out-grown-ness? Before vs. after the ride?

My son is very close to outgrowing his cute little CCO. What I need to know is, when do I measure him in the seat? When I first put him in and he is sitting nice and straight, he is at the 1" limit. After driving for a bit (we are rarely in the car more than about 20 minutes) and he has wiggled and scooched as toddlers do, he has more room above his head and it doesn't look outgrown. Which measurement matters more?

I don't know the answer to this but I always wonder, too. I read it once as someone described their son "contents settle in shipping." :)

I go with the child's full, co-operative height (so pre-shipping height) but it is amazing sometimes how many inches you can gain on a ride, even with everything snugged up good.

I would go with the most conservative measurement of how he rides in the seat. So the moment you begin to drive.

Sometimes initial settling occurs, and I'd measure after he is in and settled for a minute or two, but you want him safe the entire ride, not halfway through when full settleage has occurred :)

Depends on age of kid and if there is an alternative rf seat. A 15mo with no bigger rf seat options for example I would probably leave that way. However, a 2.5yo I would turn.

He is a 16 month old with a mega torso and I am trying to decide if I need to order a new seat now, or can wait a bit longer. It sounds like I need to order sooner rather than later. Do we know when the new Graco budget-friendly Size4Me clone is available?

Are you talking about the one with the z in the name? tranzitions or something? It didn't seem to me like the price point was that much lower than getting a good sale on the real thing. The mysize is 150 at tru/bru right now fwiw. http://www.toysrus.com/buy/car-seat...convertible-car-seat-odyssey-1807015-13320148

There is also the 15% coupon albeebaby always seems to have. if you like one of their patterns.

If that's what you know you will want, may as well buy it now - you will need it soon.
