Misconseptions about Rear-Facing start early

My newly 3 year old son is still RF in his Radian. He sits in the middle of the second row of our Suburban. Enter his sister who is a pretty typical bossy 6 year old... As she climbs in to her seat, which is in the third row of the Suburban, she says:

"Mom!! You need to turn B forward facing!!! His legs are all squished up... like... he has to sit criss-cross applesauce to fit!!! You really need to turn him."

I just smiled and giggled to myself.

Oh my almost 6 year old says that frequently about our 2.5 year old... I know where he gets those ideas, both from my MIL and the babysitter. And then another day he'll say how he wishes he could sit backwards...

I was driving one of J1's Scout pack's sister (9, does not ride in a booster) the other day after an event. J1 was sitting behind the passenger in his booster, J2 was rear facing in the middle, and the sister sat behind me (happily, I had an extra booster because I had driven a friend the day before). This girl asked why they had to sit in boosters, and accepted "it's the safest way to sit in my car" then asked why J2 had to sit backwards, didn't it hurt him? I said it didn't hurt him, and it was safer for him to face that way. She started to ask why, did ask why, but I could see she was thinking about it and before I thought of the best response she said, "Oh, I get it! Because in THAT seat [harnessed, Combi Coccoro], if he was facing like us and you crashed his head would go forward but not his body and he would choke to death." I don't think that's QUITE exactly exact, but I was really impressed with her thought process.
