Me too! I think I was right around 100 posts, when I posted a question, what do these green squares/titles, etc. mean.

A black tile means that reputation is disabled for that user. I think it is like that as default and you have to enable it through user cp.

Ok here's a question, since all of us in this thread so far are learning (or have recently learned) about reputation points.

What types of posts do you find mostly get points? I only have a few and they are pretty much coffee break/off-topic threads.

I find that once I got the questions answered I originally came here for, and since I am not a tech, I don't go to the main safety boards that often.

I vote for good technical information, good sharing of experiences (my x seat fit y car and z kid...etc), and the occasional random socially supportive post  ). I think it's actually default that the system is enabled, and your squares get greener as your points go up. The more points you have, the more points you give every time you vote on someone else's post (a newbie might vote and only share 1 rep point, when I vote I share like 14 rep points, for example).

:)

OK, now I enabled it. But, how do I give or know why I received reputation points. :)

You can give points for helpful or well-written posts by clicking the picture of the scales in the top right corner of the post.

You can check your own points by clicking the User CP link in the blue bar near the top of the page. Any points/comments you have will be listed. If you click on them, it will take you to the post that received the points.

When I click my user CP, it doesn't have anything listed. But, if I go to edit then I can see I have 5 points. I just don't know when/why I got them.

I remember wondering that too! We automatically start with 5 points. When you get additional ones they will be listed.

In User CP where I see the threads I'm subscribed to under that it has a listing of the threads that I received points for, sometimes the person leaves a note with their name sometimes not.

I believe that we might have all started with 5 points

When you go to edit you can check a box saying you want to display your points. Then when you go to your main user cp page it shows which post you got the points from. I just did it myself! :D

Yes, everone starts with a few. You can see who gave you rep points if you donate at benefactor level.

I try to give them when I read a post that's extra helpful or technical or the poster went out of her way to help someone. I also do it if I'm tempted to :yeahthat: a post.
